June Updates:
Making Clay Tiles - Memorial Gift

Students will be making school tiles Tuesday June 10 and Wednesday June 11.

The tiles will be fired June 11 and 12th.

The tiles will then be permanently placed onto a pot of a purchase Ficus Tree that was funded by School Council.

Tie Dying Shirts - June 18th

Please bring a plain white t-shirt by June 16. It doesn't have to be new, but it can be. There are white shirt sold at Micheals and probably Dollarama.

YOU NEED A REGULAR COTTON SHIRT! =) So the dye can stick.

We will be tie-dying the afternoon of June 18th.

We will be washing and rinsing June 19th.

We will be wearing the t-shirts on JUNE 25th.

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO GET A WHITE T-SHIRT FOR YOUR CHILD, PLEASE REACH OUT TO YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER.

Grade 5 Celebration - June 25th

Morning - play day with the entire school

Afternoon - in the Gym with Tie-dye shirts, school video of memories - more info from Mrs. Brinson and in the coming weeks.

Our Learning this week: 

In PE we got to play some fun running games and strategy games. 



We even had a chance to turn the circulatory system into a fun relay game! 





We completed some creative writing based on the idea: "What would you do if you got to meet a character from a book/movie?" 

We finished up our final presentations for our 3rd TUSC. We learned about The first man on the moon, the movie Rio, and some information about the starry sky! 

We are learning about voyageurs and coureur des bois. We have started writing letters from the perspective of their HARD journey! 

We also had a performance from Nose Creek Band today! it was wonderful! 


Oh and we played a fun game of Zombie Tag which tuckered the kids RIGHT out!

Important notes:  1. Library starts next week 🩵   2. Terry Fox Run = Next Thursday 🏃 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We focused on Growth Mindset this week.  After watching some videos on Growth mindset, and learning about ways we can practice this in our daily lives, we created skits!  We learned a new word game...Maybe I can teach the family. It's called, "Camping Trip!" Ask me about it.  We are working on using the sound wall to spell big, hard grade 5 words. While working on vocabulary this week, we learned the meaning of the prefix "trans; across or beyond". We used this knowledge to make sense of words like, transcribe, transportation, translucent.  We are also making a "What if Everybody Did That, Vol II" - ask me about it!  We are working on Place Value in Math.  REMINDERS  White T-shirts for Tie Dye are due on Monday June 16 Monday June 16: Imagination Day! Wednesday June 18: Tie Dye Day! June 19 – Pizza Fun Lunch – Order at healthyhunger.ca by June 14 This week: We are working on Our Diary Entry in Social Studies - written by a Coureur Des Bois or a Voyageur. We are working on Algebra in Math! In Science we wrapped up our multi- paragraph writing about body systems. and we started exploring matter. We were VERY busy using clay to add to a grade 5 legacy project this week, and busy creating something special for family members..... In Phys. Ed we played some throwing games!

  We explored some nature kits to prepare for our Field Trip next Thursday. We observed castings of skulls, foot prints, scat, and feet.      In Phys. Ed we are doing gymnastics! We practiced travels, balances and partner balances.          We celebrated Cultural Diversity Day on Wednesday. We designed flags, and many students wore their cultural clothing.            This linked well to our Social Studies learning, about how Canada is so diverse now, but how did that come to be?! We are learned about Samuel De Champlain (the father of New France), John Cabot and Jaques Cartier. They claimed land for England and France. This started the European settlers... We are working on Historical Skits about this too!  In Math we are working on Area and Perimeter, and discovering how 2 shapes can share the same area but have different perimeters.  We also focused on finding the measurements of sides when given the ...
