Our Learning

ELAL: We have continued working on our Barnabus Inspired Stories. Our focus this week was Describtive writing/sentences.

In reading, we continued to practice the comprehension skill: Inferencing 
We read a book called 111 Trees and made inferences throughout the story to better understand the characters' feelings, actions and situation. 
We also read a short story called Dog Determination. This is posted on Google Classroom if you wanted to explore it more deeply at home. 


 
MATH: division
We are reviewing what division is, and when/why we would use it. 
We focused much of our learning time on LONG DIVISION 
We also learned some divisibility rules. 

SCIENCE: Stop Motion!
We are using technology to represent our learning of how the seasons occur by creating "Stop Motion Animation" This was a fun, tedious project that requires patience and care. 

We have spent some time continuing to share our 100 day items and advice :) 

PINK SHIRT DAY: We did some valuable learning about pink shirt day, and thought of ways we can show kindness. We created Kindness Donuts with ways we can "Sprinkle Kindness" 

HEALTH: Restart came and taught us about Accountability and how to take responsibility for ourselves, our actions and our words.

Important notes:  1. Library starts next week 🩵   2. Terry Fox Run = Next Thursday 🏃 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We focused on Growth Mindset this week.  After watching some videos on Growth mindset, and learning about ways we can practice this in our daily lives, we created skits!  We learned a new word game...Maybe I can teach the family. It's called, "Camping Trip!" Ask me about it.  We are working on using the sound wall to spell big, hard grade 5 words. While working on vocabulary this week, we learned the meaning of the prefix "trans; across or beyond". We used this knowledge to make sense of words like, transcribe, transportation, translucent.  We are also making a "What if Everybody Did That, Vol II" - ask me about it!  We are working on Place Value in Math. June 19 – Pizza Fun Lunch – Order at healthyhunger.ca by June 14 This week: We are working on Our Diary Entry in Social Studies - written by a Coureur Des Bois or a Voyageur. We are working on Algebra in Math! In Science we wrapped up our multi- paragraph writing about body systems. and we started exploring matter. We were VERY busy using clay to add to a grade 5 legacy project this week, and busy creating something special for family members..... In Phys. Ed we played some throwing games!

  We explored some nature kits to prepare for our Field Trip next Thursday. We observed castings of skulls, foot prints, scat, and feet.      In Phys. Ed we are doing gymnastics! We practiced travels, balances and partner balances.          We celebrated Cultural Diversity Day on Wednesday. We designed flags, and many students wore their cultural clothing.            This linked well to our Social Studies learning, about how Canada is so diverse now, but how did that come to be?! We are learned about Samuel De Champlain (the father of New France), John Cabot and Jaques Cartier. They claimed land for England and France. This started the European settlers... We are working on Historical Skits about this too!  In Math we are working on Area and Perimeter, and discovering how 2 shapes can share the same area but have different perimeters.  We also focused on finding the measurements of sides when given the ...
