This week:

ELAL: This week we created our own Barnabus inspired creatures. We examined a "story map" more deeply, and started creating a story map for our creature that is based off of The Barnabus Project.



 


Math:  We completed a 2-digit by 2-digit scavenger hunt with 5D! We also worked in solving word problems dealing with multiplication. And, we continued to practice plotting and interpreting Stem and Leaf plots.

Stations: 
Here are some of our math stations from this week. They help us practice review and prepare our skills. 






Science: We have continued exploring Space! We are focusing on how the tilt of the earth (axis) causes the seasons that we experience. 






Social: We continued exploring a little bit about Lunar New Year. A Dragon Parade even came through our classroom





Health: Restart came again on Thursday. The focus was about conflict resolution. The activity this was was to try to work with your table group to build the tallest tower out of spaghetti noodles and playdoh, and attempt to use some of the strategies discussed earlier to resolve any conflicts that arise. 


Phys. Ed
Basketball games! Our class did a great job at passing the ball and working together in their teams.

Important notes:  1. Library starts next week 🩵   2. Terry Fox Run = Next Thursday 🏃 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We focused on Growth Mindset this week.  After watching some videos on Growth mindset, and learning about ways we can practice this in our daily lives, we created skits!  We learned a new word game...Maybe I can teach the family. It's called, "Camping Trip!" Ask me about it.  We are working on using the sound wall to spell big, hard grade 5 words. While working on vocabulary this week, we learned the meaning of the prefix "trans; across or beyond". We used this knowledge to make sense of words like, transcribe, transportation, translucent.  We are also making a "What if Everybody Did That, Vol II" - ask me about it!  We are working on Place Value in Math. June 19 – Pizza Fun Lunch – Order at healthyhunger.ca by June 14 This week: We are working on Our Diary Entry in Social Studies - written by a Coureur Des Bois or a Voyageur. We are working on Algebra in Math! In Science we wrapped up our multi- paragraph writing about body systems. and we started exploring matter. We were VERY busy using clay to add to a grade 5 legacy project this week, and busy creating something special for family members..... In Phys. Ed we played some throwing games!

  We explored some nature kits to prepare for our Field Trip next Thursday. We observed castings of skulls, foot prints, scat, and feet.      In Phys. Ed we are doing gymnastics! We practiced travels, balances and partner balances.          We celebrated Cultural Diversity Day on Wednesday. We designed flags, and many students wore their cultural clothing.            This linked well to our Social Studies learning, about how Canada is so diverse now, but how did that come to be?! We are learned about Samuel De Champlain (the father of New France), John Cabot and Jaques Cartier. They claimed land for England and France. This started the European settlers... We are working on Historical Skits about this too!  In Math we are working on Area and Perimeter, and discovering how 2 shapes can share the same area but have different perimeters.  We also focused on finding the measurements of sides when given the ...
