Important Dates 

January 27 – Report Cards for K-5 available online within your MyCBE parent account. (No paper copies are sent home.)

January 30 – Papa Johns Pizza Day (back on) – Orders must be placed by January 25 through healthyhunger.ca)

January 31 – NO SCHOOL for students – Non-Instruction Day

This Week:

ELAL: We studied narrative story endings. We focused on circular endings, emotional endings, moral/lesson endings, question endings and surprise endings. To see real examples, we explored a variety of story books, including, The Giving Tree, This is not my Hat, Walter the Farting Dog, If you Give a Mouse a Cookie, The Memory Tree.

 


We also listened to The Barnabus Project, which will inspire our next writing project.

Math: We started 2digit by 2-digit multiplication, as well as statistics (plotting and interpreting stem and leaf plots).
We learned what "Mode" is, too!


Science:
Wrapped up our learning about agriculture, and presented our research. Then started exploring our new unit; Space!



Health:
Restart joined us this week to talk about emotions, coping strategies and communication. We learned different words to use to name our emotions, different strategies to cope with our emotions, and the importance and benefits to communicate our emotions. We played a fun game to show how although we all might experience the same thing, our emotions will be individual to us, and that is OKAY!



Gym:
Basketball; passing, dribbling, shooting

Important notes:  1. Library starts next week 🩵   2. Terry Fox Run = Next Thursday 🏃 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We focused on Growth Mindset this week.  After watching some videos on Growth mindset, and learning about ways we can practice this in our daily lives, we created skits!  We learned a new word game...Maybe I can teach the family. It's called, "Camping Trip!" Ask me about it.  We are working on using the sound wall to spell big, hard grade 5 words. While working on vocabulary this week, we learned the meaning of the prefix "trans; across or beyond". June 19 – Pizza Fun Lunch – Order at healthyhunger.ca by June 14 This week: We are working on Our Diary Entry in Social Studies - written by a Coureur Des Bois or a Voyageur. We are working on Algebra in Math! In Science we wrapped up our multi- paragraph writing about body systems. and we started exploring matter. We were VERY busy using clay to add to a grade 5 legacy project this week, and busy creating something special for family members..... In Phys. Ed we played some throwing games!

  We explored some nature kits to prepare for our Field Trip next Thursday. We observed castings of skulls, foot prints, scat, and feet.      In Phys. Ed we are doing gymnastics! We practiced travels, balances and partner balances.          We celebrated Cultural Diversity Day on Wednesday. We designed flags, and many students wore their cultural clothing.            This linked well to our Social Studies learning, about how Canada is so diverse now, but how did that come to be?! We are learned about Samuel De Champlain (the father of New France), John Cabot and Jaques Cartier. They claimed land for England and France. This started the European settlers... We are working on Historical Skits about this too!  In Math we are working on Area and Perimeter, and discovering how 2 shapes can share the same area but have different perimeters.  We also focused on finding the measurements of sides when given the ...
