Highlights this week: 

Writing/Social Studies: We completed some research about the Cordillera region of Canada

Did you know the Cordillera region is 16% forest? It makes sense that their biggest industry is forestry (lumber and paper)! Parts of the Yukon and Alberta, and all of British Columbia make up this region! It holds MANY National Parks like Jasper, Banff and Yoho! 

We are working on turning our research into paragraphs with a friend.

Math: We have continued practising addition and subtraction of decimal numbers. We used money today, to help visualise regrouping. We also used shakers to make decimal numbers!

Science: We have wrapped up some research of weather and climate around the world....next week we will turn this research into a presentation

Phys. Ed:Dance continues, and man are they good!!! 

Holiday events: We have added to our wish tree. We read the book called "Wish Tree" and we wrote wishes for others on little ornaments. Ask me what I wrote.





We also used our art time this week to create lovely snowmen art using chalk pastel, after viewing this heartfelt video, "What would Christmas be without love"

Important notes:  1. Library starts next week 🩵   2. Terry Fox Run = Next Thursday 🏃 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We focused on Growth Mindset this week.  After watching some videos on Growth mindset, and learning about ways we can practice this in our daily lives, we created skits!  We learned a new word game...Maybe I can teach the family. It's called, "Camping Trip!" Ask me about it.  We are working on using the sound wall to spell big, hard grade 5 words. While working on vocabulary this week, we learned the meaning of the prefix "trans; across or beyond". We used this knowledge to make sense of words like, transcribe, transportation, translucent.  We are also making a "What if Everybody Did That, Vol II" - ask me about it!  We are working on Place Value in Math. June 19 – Pizza Fun Lunch – Order at healthyhunger.ca by June 14 This week: We are working on Our Diary Entry in Social Studies - written by a Coureur Des Bois or a Voyageur. We are working on Algebra in Math! In Science we wrapped up our multi- paragraph writing about body systems. and we started exploring matter. We were VERY busy using clay to add to a grade 5 legacy project this week, and busy creating something special for family members..... In Phys. Ed we played some throwing games!

  We explored some nature kits to prepare for our Field Trip next Thursday. We observed castings of skulls, foot prints, scat, and feet.      In Phys. Ed we are doing gymnastics! We practiced travels, balances and partner balances.          We celebrated Cultural Diversity Day on Wednesday. We designed flags, and many students wore their cultural clothing.            This linked well to our Social Studies learning, about how Canada is so diverse now, but how did that come to be?! We are learned about Samuel De Champlain (the father of New France), John Cabot and Jaques Cartier. They claimed land for England and France. This started the European settlers... We are working on Historical Skits about this too!  In Math we are working on Area and Perimeter, and discovering how 2 shapes can share the same area but have different perimeters.  We also focused on finding the measurements of sides when given the ...
