December 17 – SPIRIT DAY: Festive Sweater Day

December 18 – School Council Meeting at 6:00 – Please come to have your voice heard on where ~$20000 of Casino Fundraiser money will be spent. The grades two and three teachers will also be presenting.

December 19 – Popcorn Day (orders due by December 14 through healthyhunger.ca)

December 20 – SPIRIT DAY: PJ Day

December 20 – Last day of classes before Winter Break

January 6 – First day of classes after Winter Break


Our week at a glance:

This week we worked on more adding and subtracting of decimal numbers. We got to go to 5D to complete a scavenger hunt with the other grade 5 students. Math problems were hidden around the room. 
    
We continued with paragraph writing for Social and ELA this week. The students completed one more paragraph with a buddy, this time it was on the Appalachian region of Canada! Did you know that the Appalachian mountains are older than the Rocky Mountains in the Cordillera region?! 

We also got to read with our grade 2 buddies! 

Science: we wrote our scripts for our "Vlogs". We will work on recording a video of ourselves intending to inform the listener about the city we have been watching. This video will explain why someone should visit, and what kind of climate and weather they should expect there. 

We got to polish off our dance and perform it this week! The students did an excellent job, and it was so fun to watch the other classes perform too.

Important notes:  1. Library starts next week 🩵   2. Terry Fox Run = Next Thursday 🏃 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We focused on Growth Mindset this week.  After watching some videos on Growth mindset, and learning about ways we can practice this in our daily lives, we created skits!  We learned a new word game...Maybe I can teach the family. It's called, "Camping Trip!" Ask me about it.  We are working on using the sound wall to spell big, hard grade 5 words. While working on vocabulary this week, we learned the meaning of the prefix "trans; across or beyond". We used this knowledge to make sense of words like, transcribe, transportation, translucent.  We are also making a "What if Everybody Did That, Vol II" - ask me about it!  We are working on Place Value in Math. June 19 – Pizza Fun Lunch – Order at healthyhunger.ca by June 14 This week: We are working on Our Diary Entry in Social Studies - written by a Coureur Des Bois or a Voyageur. We are working on Algebra in Math! In Science we wrapped up our multi- paragraph writing about body systems. and we started exploring matter. We were VERY busy using clay to add to a grade 5 legacy project this week, and busy creating something special for family members..... In Phys. Ed we played some throwing games!

  We explored some nature kits to prepare for our Field Trip next Thursday. We observed castings of skulls, foot prints, scat, and feet.      In Phys. Ed we are doing gymnastics! We practiced travels, balances and partner balances.          We celebrated Cultural Diversity Day on Wednesday. We designed flags, and many students wore their cultural clothing.            This linked well to our Social Studies learning, about how Canada is so diverse now, but how did that come to be?! We are learned about Samuel De Champlain (the father of New France), John Cabot and Jaques Cartier. They claimed land for England and France. This started the European settlers... We are working on Historical Skits about this too!  In Math we are working on Area and Perimeter, and discovering how 2 shapes can share the same area but have different perimeters.  We also focused on finding the measurements of sides when given the ...
