This week:
We practiced a new station to prepare for Literacy Stations - Letter Writing.
We first wrote a letter to Ms. Blyth, and then we got to choose who to write a letter to.
"I wrote for Mrs. Dang, my old teacher because I miss her and she was really nice." - Nehal
"I wrote to Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase because I really really wish that they weren't fictional characters." -Jenna
"I wrote for Ms. White because I really love music!" -Dunya
Math:
We practiced expanded form in math. It is when numbers split up into its different values. We used little place value to cards to practice, and then were worked on expanding really big numbers....with lots of zeros. Ms. Mundy tricked most of us into expanding zeros, when we really didn't have to.
"Why! WHY MS. MUNDY! Why did you trick us?!" - Maclean
Art:
We made a fish and then we did the background in watercolour paint, and then after that we painted the fish. The final step was adding sharpie, removing tape and writing a "Words of Wisdom" to the bottom of the fish.
Some words of wisdom from the kids = Accept others. You can be yourself. No matter what, always smile. No matter if you are sad or mad, always be happy. People can be scary but that doesn't mean they can't be loved. Smile often. Punches might bruise but words never hurt.
Social Studies
We completed a map of Canada with Provinces territories, and capital cities labeled.
We also studied Terry Fox, and we focused on his amazing growth mindset. We went to 5D to watch a video and write paragraphs about Terry Fox. We also set goals for our run.
"My goal for the Terry Fox run was to run 20 laps around the field. I reached my goal. I felt proud of myself, and really tired" - Nolan
"My goal was to run 5 or more laps. I reached my goal, 7 laps. I surpassed my goal!. I felt amazed and very tired." -Luke
"My goal was to run 3 or more laps. I reached my goal and I went four more laps than my goal." - Akaaldeep
Community Walk
"We walked to Coventry hills School to review if anything bad happens we would go there." - Juno
When we got back to school we drew a map of where we went to get to coventry hills. This helped us practice our geography and mapping skills. Walking the path towards Coventry is north, and we turned west at the end of the path.
Health:
Medicine wheel - we watched a Ted Talk about a professional Hoop Dancer. We started filling out the ways that we care for our Body and our Heart, 2 sections of the medicine wheel.
Words from the kids:
"School is really fun! We can do P.E and learn different ways of art." - Mathyus
"I am really really happy that I got to go see my moms school this week. She teaches there and it's neat to see her school." -Jenna
"I like playing with my friends because we play all sorts of games, like soccer, tag and playing on the playground." - Wesley
"School is like a giant colony of penguins. Because everyone works together to try their best." - Juno
