Monday was the Solar Eclipse. This was an exciting day, and a wonderful opportunity to learn about some Sky Science! We completed a reading passage explaining what a solar eclipse is, and we answered questions to show our understanding. We also used chalk on black paper to create the illusion of the moon passing in front of the sun through different stages.
The Drumfit master returned this year for Drum Fit!!! The kids have been getting incredible workouts while making music on exercise balls.
We have taken a few angles in Social Studies, all focused on community. We have continued our learning on the indigenous people in the cordillera region (Haida). We have focused on how they use the resources around them to create their community (Cedar trees to build their lng houses, Water to find food). And how they used these resources during their potlatch ceremonies.
We listened to an interesting tale about the crow and raven potlatch
We also completed research on a focal region by first identifying major bodies of water (lakes, oceans, rivers) in a certain region. We then explored how water is used in that region to help build community through things like transportation, food, jobs, and recreation.
In ELAL we have been working on our final copy of our SPRING BREAK acrostic poems. They are looking very cool! We also worked on reading comprehension strategies - Making connections.
We have continued building in the Level-up Calgary world.
We continue to consider the main ideas and outlines expected for this amazing challenge.
We connected our learning during Makerspace by building communities!
