reminder: tomorrow is pink/red day, and Valentine's Day! 


Today we did a special 10 minutes of writing. Then we went to music and we learnt about indigenous music and also did a colouring sheet on indigenous culture. 


 After, we read A rover story and  Then we had a conversation on anxiety. We discussed the responses Fight, Flight, Freeze. We talked about the parts of the brain, and how this is actually a protective instinct that your brain has.

 After we did  research and worked on  our national park brochure. 

 

In math we continued graphing weather changes from fall and winter. All of our data collection is aying off. 

Finally, our day ended with discussion of black history month. We shared our current knowledge, made connections, and asked thoughtful questions. We took a look at the Kayak magazine in preparation for our next project.



Tomorrow's secret word is gargantuan (enormous). Come whisper a sentence to me tomorrow, using the word gargantuan. 😏

Important notes:  1. Library starts next week 🩵   2. Terry Fox Run = Next Thursday 🏃 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We focused on Growth Mindset this week.  After watching some videos on Growth mindset, and learning about ways we can practice this in our daily lives, we created skits!  We learned a new word game...Maybe I can teach the family. It's called, "Camping Trip!" Ask me about it.  We are working on using the sound wall to spell big, hard grade 5 words. While working on vocabulary this week, we learned the meaning of the prefix "trans; across or beyond". We are working on Algebra in Math! In Science we wrapped up our multi- paragraph writing about body systems. and we started exploring matter. We were VERY busy using clay to add to a grade 5 legacy project this week, and busy creating something special for family members..... In Phys. Ed we played some throwing games!

  We explored some nature kits to prepare for our Field Trip next Thursday. We observed castings of skulls, foot prints, scat, and feet.      In Phys. Ed we are doing gymnastics! We practiced travels, balances and partner balances.          We celebrated Cultural Diversity Day on Wednesday. We designed flags, and many students wore their cultural clothing.            This linked well to our Social Studies learning, about how Canada is so diverse now, but how did that come to be?! We are learned about Samuel De Champlain (the father of New France), John Cabot and Jaques Cartier. They claimed land for England and France. This started the European settlers... We are working on Historical Skits about this too!  In Math we are working on Area and Perimeter, and discovering how 2 shapes can share the same area but have different perimeters.  We also focused on finding the measurements of sides when given the ...
