 Today in phys. ed we played gaga ball. 

We created and signed a classroom contract with classroom expectations. 

In math we worked on some new routines including Number of the Day and What Doesn't Belong. The students worked in pairs or independently on these. 

We started creating our own books today. We talked about the elements of a book and discussed the expectations for our personal books. We can choose to write fiction, non-fiction or graphic novels. 

Finally, we explored symbolism in Miss Mundy's life map. Using symbols to guide our big events, we started brainstorming our important life events and symbols that we can use to represent these moments. 


IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: 

We will be going for a walking field trip on Friday Sept. 8 with the grade 5 team! We will be going to the Country Hills Storm Pond and the Vivo Play Structure (weather permitting).

Important notes:  1. Library starts next week 🩵   2. Terry Fox Run = Next Thursday 🏃 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We focused on Growth Mindset this week.  After watching some videos on Growth mindset, and learning about ways we can practice this in our daily lives, we created skits!  We learned a new word game...Maybe I can teach the family. It's called, "Camping Trip!" Ask me about it.  We are working on using the sound wall to spell big, hard grade 5 words. While working on vocabulary this week, we learned the meaning of the prefix "trans; across or beyond". We are working on Algebra in Math! In Science we wrapped up our multi- paragraph writing about body systems. and we started exploring matter. We were VERY busy using clay to add to a grade 5 legacy project this week, and busy creating something special for family members..... In Phys. Ed we played some throwing games!

  We explored some nature kits to prepare for our Field Trip next Thursday. We observed castings of skulls, foot prints, scat, and feet.      In Phys. Ed we are doing gymnastics! We practiced travels, balances and partner balances.          We celebrated Cultural Diversity Day on Wednesday. We designed flags, and many students wore their cultural clothing.            This linked well to our Social Studies learning, about how Canada is so diverse now, but how did that come to be?! We are learned about Samuel De Champlain (the father of New France), John Cabot and Jaques Cartier. They claimed land for England and France. This started the European settlers... We are working on Historical Skits about this too!  In Math we are working on Area and Perimeter, and discovering how 2 shapes can share the same area but have different perimeters.  We also focused on finding the measurements of sides when given the ...
