Wednesday Sept. 20 & Thursday Sept. 21

 A few highlights from our Terry Fox day are: 

On Wednesday we focused a lot on Terry Fox. We started the day listening to a story about Terry Fox called Terry and Me. We had some valuable conversation around the experiences and feelings of Terry and his friend. We then wrote some reflections on the story and set a personal goal for our run that was being held later in the afternoon. 



We went to Maker Space and built Terry Fox inspired things; prosthetic legs, Running courses, and even Canadian flags. 





In math we worked on a mystery coordinate drawing. We have to plot the points to reveal a secret picture. 




A few highlights from our day today are: 

We played Bench Ball in Phys. Ed! our word work was focused on synonyms today. Ask me what a synonym is! 

We continued to discover our secret picture in Math, and in music we explored some new instruments. Ask me what instrument I played! 

Finally, to wrap up our day we completed a spelling quiz and then worked on an artistic page for WETLANDS! 

REMINDER Tomorrow is a PD day, that means no school for students! Enjoy the wonderful extended weekend. I look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday.

Important notes:  1. Library starts next week 🩵   2. Terry Fox Run = Next Thursday 🏃 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We focused on Growth Mindset this week.  After watching some videos on Growth mindset, and learning about ways we can practice this in our daily lives, we created skits!  We learned a new word game...Maybe I can teach the family. While working on vocabulary this week, we learned the meaning of the prefix "trans; across or beyond". June 19 – Pizza Fun Lunch – Order at healthyhunger.ca by June 14 This week: We are working on Our Diary Entry in Social Studies - written by a Coureur Des Bois or a Voyageur. We are working on Algebra in Math! In Science we wrapped up our multi- paragraph writing about body systems. and we started exploring matter. We were VERY busy using clay to add to a grade 5 legacy project this week, and busy creating something special for family members..... In Phys. Ed we played some throwing games!

  We explored some nature kits to prepare for our Field Trip next Thursday. We observed castings of skulls, foot prints, scat, and feet.      In Phys. Ed we are doing gymnastics! We practiced travels, balances and partner balances.          We celebrated Cultural Diversity Day on Wednesday. We designed flags, and many students wore their cultural clothing.            This linked well to our Social Studies learning, about how Canada is so diverse now, but how did that come to be?! We are learned about Samuel De Champlain (the father of New France), John Cabot and Jaques Cartier. They claimed land for England and France. This started the European settlers... We are working on Historical Skits about this too!  In Math we are working on Area and Perimeter, and discovering how 2 shapes can share the same area but have different perimeters.  We also focused on finding the measurements of sides when given the ...
