Today at school... We started with a class meeting about minecraft and we were going to do a minecraft challenge where we design a park or a subway station.After we worked on our brainstorming of how we will build our minecraft parks or portals.Like a water fountain or statue. After our Minecraft brainstorming section we moved on to music where we got FREE TIME. We continued with our brainstorming and then worked on our national parks brochures or our biographies. We had 15 minutes to try logging into Minecraft to learn about the challenge in the world.  After lunch we implemented 3 math stations; shakers, games and Bump it! Ask me which 2 I tried! 

 Pink Shirt Day!  Thank you to our Leadership Club crew who did an amazing job helping to run and organize that assembly today! This morning we spent time learning about the history about Pink Shirt day, and then we created wonderfully creative pages on relfection of kindness. Some students made goals on acts of kindness, others wrote about some of the kind things they have done for others and have had done to them!  We started brainstorming ideas for the Minecraft challenge. We practiced 2-step algebraic equations, such as  9 + 8 x 3 = b  2y + 3 = 15  We introduced a new math tool; shakers.  Today we started our day with BHM biography and gym.  Today we did hockey, we practiced stick dribbling/ stick handling. In ELAL we did black history month research. We did not use computers because yesterday we all wasted our time doing random stuff, soo we used books from the library. We did our writing about the black history facts we learned about. We reviewed science about heterogeneous mixtures. We used air to blow away dust, noticing the difference of mass. Air is one way to separate mixtures. We had lunch and indoor recess. A group or girls are acting like cats on a mission impossible trying to escape hunters. I was like :) miss mundy was like :( ----> :O we did some math with basic facts and algebra and X. Today we started our day with community circle. Totally not lucas again. Hey people, so today we started with sharing like every Monday. We had music and we did art. When we were done we had free choice to do some feedback stuff like Miss. White will give you suggestions to play instruments, like play the egg shaker with tree hands. We could also do art with playdoh. Every grade fives love playdoh still, what???  Time for snack so don't talk too loud. After snack we did word study so our  prefix word is sub. We think of as many words as possible subscribe, subway, sub you all, subsoil, submerch and words like that. For ELAL we did black history month. we read a book/poem about the unspeakable.  We had a fun Friday!  We completed 7 minutes of writing, and then we headed off to PE for Freedom Frenzy!!!! The kids came back to class sweaty!  After snack time we finished the book about Willie O'Ree, and then we completed a fun math activity for Numeracy Week. The kids were given a page of math questions that required them to wander the school using their math brains! Ask me what kinds of questions there were!  We did a classroom clean up and finished the day with Community Circle! We shared a celebration of the week, and a non-favourite part of the week.  WE REACHED OUR GOAL! We spelled out the word CHOICE for choice seating!!  Way to go grade 5's!  Tomorrow is MULTIPLES DAY! Dress like a twin, or a triplet, or a quadruplet!  We started pattern day off by learning about symmetry. We talked about lines of symmetry, and read a book about symmetry in nature. Then the kids had time to create!  We went to gym for our LAST day of skipping!    After snack we started a story about Willie O'Ree - Ask me what I learned so far about him. We introduced a new research project for Black History Month. We will be writing Biographies on famous black canadians. We explored the people posted on Google Classroom, and then started our research process. Ask me who I chose. After lunch we played math games!  We finished our day with a reading comprehension for Science on States of Matter.  SHIRT ORDERS: 

Tomorrow is Pattern Day! Wear Fun Patterns!  This morning we talked about some of the things we wish to accomplish by the time we reach 100 years old. We watched a video about 3 centurinains!  The kids went to music today with Miss White!  We read a story about Viola Desmond. Ask me what Viola Desmond is known for.  We continued working on our Black History Month posters. Ask me about some of the facts I have included on my poster We went to Makerspace today, and built something to represent 100 in lieu of 100th day of school.  We learned a new game in Math today! Ask me all about it.  Finally, we wrapped up our day with some Science, focusing on the three states of matter; solid, liquid and gas!

 Tomorrow is our 100th day of school! Dress like you are 100!  Thursday is pattern day.  Today we started our day by sharing in our community circle. The kids continue to work on attentive listening during this time, to demonstrate respect for their peers. Ask your child something interesting they learned about their classmates during community circle.  They continued skipping in Phys ed with Mr Newton! Ask your child what they did!  We read some of our read aloud book. Res has returned to earth and finally came back online! He spent 17 years offline!  We had literacy stations. Ask your child which two stations they worked at today. Some groups learned a new game; word around!  In math we worked on some math games!  Finally, we wrapped up with some black history month learning. 

 NOTE:  Hoodies and t-shirts are being sold between now and February 29. Staff interested in ordering follow the same process as families...just fill in the order form and e-transfer to their gmail account. Today we started our day with some valentines day word search and word scramble. Ask me how I did! Then after that we played a game called Hot Seat.  How to play: you first have to have a person on a chair then another person puts a word on the smartboard behind them, and then the person on the chair has to guess the word by the people giving the person a clue. After that we headed of to gym. We did freedom frenzy. One of the games we played was helicopter.Ask me if i won!Then we headed back and we did snack and we were giving out valentines cards! thanks to the parent who brought them! We worked on creating informative posters for Black History Month. We are defining the words discrimination, racism, and race, and we are also recording examples of unfair treatment....
